Heart Rate Variability Test
A healthy heart doesn’t beat absolutely regularly like clockwork – the length of time between consecutive beats will always vary slightly (hence “heart rate variability”). The pattern of beat-to-beat variability is controlled by our autonomic nervous system and hormonal regulation centers and can be documented by ECG.
Variability patterns are a very good indication of:
- The risk of cardiovascular diseases and sudden cardiac death
- The state and reactivity of the autonomic nervous system
- Regulation by the body’s hormonal centers
- Severity and phase of disease, independent of type
- Effectiveness of therapy (follow-up monitoring)
The Heart Rate Variability Test is an excellent diagnostic procedure for a multitude of diseases, allowing for better assessment of a patient’s physical state and optimization of therapy.
