Dear friends of the HG Naturklinik,

For many years the staff of the HG Naturklinik has applied itself not only for the health and well-being of people, but for animals and of nature as well. The human being is a part of nature, the microcosm in the macrocosm, and the body of a person is inseparably connected with everything that lives. For us the Golden Rule of the Sermon on the Mount “Do not do to others as you would not have them do to you” applies not only to people but also to animals and all of nature.

Our staff does not work for a corporate enterprise, for stockholders or for employers. We work for the betterment of mankind, nature and animals. And many of our clinic employees are active in their free time for nature and the animals.

This is why the rescue of threatened animals is always a concern that lies close to our hearts at the HG Naturklinik.

Specifically, 21 fallow deer could be rescued last week through “Heimat für Tiere”, an animal sanctuary. A compound of over 40 animals was closing and all the animals were to be shot by hunters. Over 50% of this herd were fawns ranging from 6 months to one year of age.

Neighbours and animal rights advocates made the animal friends of “Heimat für Tiere” aware of this compound. Immediately an intense rescue action began, which took many weeks to complete. Countless telephone conversations were made to other compounds and animal friends to find homes for the animals, while “Heimat für Tiere” could commit to taking on 10 animals. Alone in the last week we made three trips of approximately four hours one-way. We were eight animal friends and were at this compound for five days.

The capture and transport of the animals required detailed planning. The animals are wild, even though they lived on a compound of approximately 3,2 hectare. And they were very shy. In the end, we had to build a compound within a compound, practice endless patience and continuously affirm the success of this rescue action in order to capture the animals and prepare them for transport. Up to the last minute, it continued to take great effort to find a good home for so many animals.

But in the end, after all the negotiations, 11 animals were left, 7 of which were fawns, small “Bambis” for which placement was not available. For them the threat of death by being shot loomed. So the animal friends of “Heimat für Tiere” decided to take on the 11 animals in addition to the 10 they had committed to accepting on the animal sanctuary. It was simply impossible to leave these Bambis to their fate of death, especially after looking into their large eyes, so pleading and guiltless.

Now they are all healthy and frisky, living in a new compound on the animal sanctuary “Heimat für Tiere”. And all 21 animals can be sure that no hunter lurks to shoot them on the sly. And, they can be sure to live in peace and grow to an old age.

Dear friends, all this requires much more capital then originally planned. More grazing land, if possible with some woods, of approximately 2 hectares must be purchased and the shelter must be enlarged. The compound needs to be fenced and paths must be laid in a way that does justice to this species, so that all goes well, especially now in the approaching winter months. The animals also need feed, hay and straw so that they are warm and snug and do not have to go hungry. For all this, for the new grazing land, for the construction and expansion, for medical care and feed we need approximately 80.000€, as soon as possible.
